Justice For Matt Bandy or How you could go to jail for life for images someone else put on your computer

Frequently Asked Questions
about The Matt Bandy Case

The following are questions website visitors felt were not addressed elsewhere on the site, as answered by Jonathan Bernstein for the Bandys. We will expand this list as new questions come in.

Q: Why don't you provide some links to sites that can inform people about computer security?

A: Given what happened to the Bandys, we'd hate to say X or Y site is the best source for you, because the Bandys believed what we'd been told before and they were wrong! We do know that the answer is in careful research at multiple reliable sources, which would probably include many of the sites which you'll find mentioned in our Articles & Links of Interest section, and most of the popular computer magazine and "techie" sites. As for the Bandys, they've switched to a Mac simply because it's still a lower-risk for compromise, but we know even Macs are targeted by hackers.

Q: If we can't trust the Internet companies to protect us, who can we trust?

A: The Bandys say, "Educate yourselves very, very thoroughly about Internet security. We have learned that there's no such thing as 100% security, but it might have helped us to recognize some of the warning signs that our computer was compromised versus trusting Microsoft, AOL, Symantec (Norton Antivirus), Yahoo and so on. And demand that your Internet Service Provider get more involved in protecting you, because very few of us have the technical expertise to really understand this stuff."

Q: I looked on your website but could find nothing about accepting donations for legal expenses and to help you recover financially. Have you looked into that?

A: The Bandys have been very careful not to say or do anything that looked like they were soliciting donations, because they didn't want people to think that's why they were seeking publicity. However, so many people have asked this that the family is going to humbly and gratefully start accepting donations to help them in any way recoup from having their financial legs cut out from under them. They have established a post office box address and if anyone wishes to write checks to Matt, Greg and/or Jeanne Bandy, they will be very appreciated. Please understand (a) that the family is not destitute, but, essentially, they have spent their life savings and (b) that any support you send would simply be a gift, not a tax-deductible donation. The address for such donations is:

The Bandy Family
P.O. Box 93476
Phoenix AZ 85070-3476

Q: Are you going to sue any of the Internet companies you feel let you down and left Matt holding the bag, legally?

A: Yes! We're talking to expert legal counsel about that now. If you have a similar case and might like to participate with us in a lawsuit, please fill out our Contact Us form and we'll pass that information on to our attorney.
